When Learning Becomes a Habit: A Journey of Discipline and Curiosity

eVidyaloka|August 2026

Some of the most meaningful changes in a classroom aren't reflected in report cards. They can be seen in the way students walk into class, the questions they ask, and the excitement they bring to learning each day.

This was the change witnessed at one of eVidyaloka's partner government schools after regular online classes with Volunteer Teachers began.

Before the programme, student attendance was irregular and classroom participation was limited. Many students needed encouragement to stay engaged, and building consistent learning habits remained a challenge.

Gradually, things began to change.

As the classes became a regular part of the school routine, students started looking forward to them. Attendance improved, discipline became more noticeable, and the classroom developed a new sense of energy. School teachers, the Headmaster, and parents all played an important role in supporting the programme and ensuring that the classes ran smoothly.

What stood out most was the students' enthusiasm. They would often ask if there was a class scheduled for the day and request that it begin as early as possible. On several occasions, students took the initiative to collect the classroom keys, unlock the room, arrange the space, and wait eagerly for the session to begin. Their excitement spoke volumes about how much they valued these learning opportunities.

The sessions themselves became increasingly interactive. Students who were once hesitant began asking questions, volunteering answers, and participating more confidently in discussions with their Volunteer Teachers. Learning became a two-way conversation rather than a one-sided lesson.

The change wasn't limited to the classroom. Students also became more regular in completing their homework and were eager to share their work with their Volunteer Teachers. These small but meaningful shifts reflected growing responsibility, confidence, and ownership of their learning.

What began as a series of online classes gradually helped shape a culture of curiosity and discipline. Students became more engaged, more confident, and more willing to participate. Alongside stronger academic understanding, they developed habits that will continue to support their learning well beyond the classroom.

Stories like this remind us that quality education is built not only through lessons, but through consistency, encouragement, and meaningful interactions. When students feel excited to learn, they begin to show up—not just in the classroom, but in their own educational journey.
