From Learning to Leading: Stories of Women in Action

eVidyaloka|February 2026

At the heart of eVidyaloka’s mission is a simple yet powerful idea—bringing quality education to students in rural government schools. Through virtual classrooms led by passionate volunteer teachers, learning continues, no matter the distance. But beyond the classes, something deeper unfolds. A young girl begins to believe in her dreams, a class assistant grows into a leader within her community, and a volunteer teacher finds purpose in giving back.

Learning with curiosity

At a government school in Andhra Pradesh, grade 6 student Amrutha is an enthusiastic learner. She actively participates in the virtual mathematics classes led by volunteer teacher Prasad Reddi, listening attentively and showing a keen interest in understanding concepts. When something is unclear, she does not hesitate to ask questions, reflecting her strong dedication to learning.

Through regular practice and consistent effort, she is now able to solve problems with ease and arrive at the correct answers quickly. She stays engaged throughout the class by participating in discussions and interacting comfortably with her teacher. The structured digital learning approach has not only helped her build a strong understanding of the subject but also a lasting confidence to apply what she learns independently.

Walking the extra mile

Sunita has been working as a Class Assistant at a government school in Karnataka for the past three years. In this role, she plays a vital part in coordinating eVidyaloka’s online classes, ensuring sessions start on time, stay connected, and run smoothly while maintaining discipline in the classroom.

With no access to bus or vehicle facilities, Sunita walks nearly 5 kilometers each day from her village to reach the school. Yet, she does not see this distance as a challenge, but as a source of pride and purpose, knowing she contributes meaningfully to the learning journey of many students.

As students learn subjects like mathematics, English, and science, Sunita learns alongside them, growing in self-assurance and capability with every class. Her dedication and passion for education truly embody the spirit of commitment that strengthens rural learning.

Aliva Angelia volunteers as an English teacher for Class 8 students at a government school in Odisha. With a learner-centric approach, she focuses on strengthening students’ reading, comprehension, and communication skills by encouraging consistent practice during her classes. Her explanations are simple and easy to follow, creating a space where students feel comfortable sharing their thoughts without hesitation.

In her classes, she pays special attention to students who find English difficult, patiently guiding them as they build vocabulary, work on pronunciation, and become more fluent. Over time, her encouragement helped students develop a greater interest in the subject. With her commitment and passion for teaching, Aliva has created a positive and inclusive classroom environment. Her efforts have made a real difference in her students’ learning and confidence.

Together, these experiences show how meaningful change often begins in small, everyday moments of learning. From curiosity in a classroom to quiet acts of dedication and teaching, each story reflects the power of education to build confidence and purpose. They highlight the strength, resilience, and leadership that women bring to this journey. As these efforts continue, they remind us why it matters to keep creating spaces where every girl can learn, and every woman can lead.
