At eVidyaloka, volunteers don’t just teach, they encourage students to ask questions, explore ideas, and connect learning to life. Even amidst busy schedules, volunteers make time to teach virtually to students miles away, finding joy in every class. What begins as a simple pause in their day quickly grows into a meaningful commitment, driven by purpose and passion.
Anisha Jindal began her volunteering journey with eVidyaloka two years ago. Science has always held a special place in her heart, and when she took on the role of a Science teacher, her goal was clear. She says, “I want to make children understand that science isn’t locked inside a textbook, but exists in everyday life. It is in the water they drink, the food they cook, and the light that fills their room. Science is already a part of their lives; they just didn’t have the words for it yet.”
Her aim is to help students observe their surroundings and see how knowledge can guide wiser choices. Her happiest moments come from the simpler experiences. She shares, “My favorite moments in class are when I explain a concept and the students think deeply and come up with their own unique examples. I am happy to see that the children have started observing and connecting ideas on their own.”
Anisha’s vision is long-term. She reflects, “Years from now, the children may not remember every lesson, but my goal is to instill curiosity in them and a desire to keep learning.” She hopes every student realizes that knowledge is universal and that with curiosity and effort, they can achieve anything.
“I was nervous in the beginning, but with each class, my confidence grew stronger, all because of the students.” Tanvi Singh started her volunteering with eVidyaloka as a Math and English teacher for grade 8 students. Her initial concerns soon gave way to excitement. She shares, “The students’ eagerness during the classes brought a sense of joy and fulfillment to teaching. Their wit and learning approach are truly worth noticing as they are quick to grasp concepts and apply them.”
She recalls a lighthearted classroom moment, “Few students had close allies who would often prompt them when asked a question, and sometimes the answer would turn out to be wrong. I once jokingly warned the students seeking help to reconsider asking the same ally during exams. That moment made the class burst into laughter."
Tanvi would carry these classroom experiences into her daily conversations. “My friend and I used to discuss how the base of any learning is to spark curiosity in a student. I encouraged each student to come forward and provide the solution after concept building. This helped me understand the sentiment of the class and build a comfortable pace of learning.”
She notes that the tutorials provided by eVidyaloka are highly effective, as they are delivered in students’ preferred languages. Tanvi leads every session with the goal of nurturing engaged learners rather than passive ones.
Volunteers strive to make each session count toward creating a meaningful impact. Their goal is to inspire students to stay curious and cultivate a love for learning. While students will encounter many teachers throughout their educational journey, it is their mindset and approach that truly shape their growth. Our volunteers understand this, keeping classrooms lively, engaging, and full of smiles.
