In rural schools, where resources are limited and access to education comes after many hurdles, adopting a holistic approach to learning is often challenging. Yet, in the hands of the right teacher, this challenge transforms into an opportunity.

Sukeerthi, a volunteer, teaches mathematics to grade 7 students at a government school in karnataka— but her lessons go far beyond numbers and formulas.

Understanding the importance of connecting students with the world around them, she consistently introduces them to current events and global happenings. In one of her recent sessions, she explained the lunar eclipse, showing pictures and videos that sparked excitement and curiosity among her students.

With every session, she is not just sharing information but also broadening their perspectives – showing that learning is both enjoyable and an ongoing process. These little yet thoughtful efforts have increased the interest and participation of the students in her class.

Her engaging and interactive way of teaching keeps the children attentive, motivated, and eager to learn, shaping them into not only good learners but also curious and informed young minds.

At another school in rural Uttar Pradesh, Vandana Sharma, who teaches science to grade 7 students, asked her class to think about an important yet creative topic: “How to Reduce Environmental Pollution.”

Ten enthusiastic students decided to take a different approach and expressed their ideas through colorful drawings. Their thoughts took shape on paper in many creative ways—some illustrated the importance of planting trees, while others highlighted saving electricity, avoiding plastic, and conserving water. Some students also depicted the dangers of ignoring pollution — like toxic air, plastic-filled oceans, and sick animals.

Vandana encouraged her students to continue being responsible citizens and praised their efforts. Each artwork served as a reminder that students are brimming with ideas, understanding that small steps taken today can create a better tomorrow.

When teachers inspire curiosity, creativity, and responsibility, students don’t just gain knowledge— they are empowered to become changemakers in their communities, carrying the lessons from the classroom into their homes and daily lives.
