From Fields to Screens: How Education Found Its Way Home

eVidyaloka|May 2025

At UPG HS Saltala in Jharkhand, the journey to ensuring that every child received an education was far from easy. When Ijmamamul Ansari first joined as a Class Assistant three years ago, the school faced a significant challenge: low enrollment. The village community and the school staff spoke different languages, creating a communication barrier that stood in the way of progress. Teachers struggled to convey the importance of education, and parents, unfamiliar with the language and the formal schooling system, remained hesitant.

Determined to bridge this gap, the Headmaster and the local community engaged in long discussions and meetings. Through consistent efforts, the value of education was explained to parents, and gradually, they began sending their children to school. However, a new challenge soon emerged. Many parents, working in the fields, often took their children along with them. Attendance dropped once again, threatening the progress that had been so hard-earned.

Change truly began when digital live classes through eVidyaloka were introduced. These classes, filled with cartoons, videos, and interactive activities, captivated the children’s attention in ways traditional methods could not. The engaging content not only made learning fun but also created a strong pull for students to stay connected with their education. Slowly but steadily, school attendance started to rise.

As the children’s enthusiasm grew, the community’s perspective on education began to shift as well. The language barrier that once seemed insurmountable began to fade. Parents who had once struggled to see the value of schooling now recognized its importance. They started making arrangements to ensure their children attended classes regularly, even if it meant leaving them with relatives or grandparents while they went to work in the fields.

The transformation did not happen overnight. It was a gradual but beautiful change, built on trust, patience, and the irresistible appeal of accessible, enjoyable learning. The digital classes did more than enhance academic skills; they nurtured a culture of responsibility and hope within the community. Today, the students of UPG HS Saltala, once often absent, now attend eagerly, knowing that school is not just a duty but a doorway to a brighter future.

The story of UPG HS Saltala stands as a testament to the power of technology and community collaboration. It shows that when new methods are embraced and barriers are broken with understanding, real and lasting change is possible. Thanks to the dedication of teachers, staff, and parents, the school has evolved from a simple institution into a vibrant beacon of opportunity and hope.
